Bone marrow is an excessively vascularized, gelatinous tissue that contains hematopoietic (HSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells. These stem cells generate progenitor cells that divide into many types of cells, including osteocytes (bone cells), adipocytes (fat cells), myocytes (muscle cells), erythrocytes and leukocytes.
Two types of bone marrow:
- Red bone marrow
- Yellow bone marrow
