To explain: Whether the intact cells are able to detect the signal after it is treated to remove the cell surface proteins.
Introduction: Receptors are the chemical structures that bind with the signal molecules called as ligands. The ligand molecules can be proteins, peptides, and lipids that induce the signal transduction pathway by binding to the receptor molecules. For instance, the ligand acetylcholine binds to the acetylcholine receptor, which induces the transmission of nerve impulse between the nerves.
