Explanation of Solution

Given information:

Two similar triangles.

Construct two triangles PQR and STU . These two triangles are similar triangles that is PQRSTU .

The corresponding angles in both the triangles PQR and STU are congruent that is,

  P=S,Q=T and R=U .

The corresponding sides in both the triangles PQR and STU are in same proportion that is,

  PQST=QRTU=PRSU

Recall that the trigonometric ratios for a right angle triangle are defined as,

  sinθ=oppositehypotenuse,cosθ=adjacenthypotenuse,tanθ=oppositeadjacent,cscθ=hypotenuseopposite,secθ=hypotenuseadjacent and cotθ=adjacentopposite .

Since, PQST=PRSU this implies that PQPR=STSU . The value of sine function is,

  sinR=oppositehypotenuse and sinU=oppositehypotenuse .

Therefore,

  PQPR=STSUsinR=sinU

Since, QRTU=PRSU this implies that QRPR=TUSU . The value of cosine function is,
