Concept explainers
To describe:
The disorder associated with the white blood cells.
Introduction:
The blood cells contain different types of formed elements like RBCs or erythrocytes, WBCs or leucocytes or platelets or thrombocytes. WBCs are present in large number. They have polymorphic nucleus, therefore also called as PML (polymorphic nuclear lymphocytes). They provide specific type of immunity to body. There are two types of WBCs: granulocytes (having granules in their cytoplasm) and agranulocytes (absence of granules)
Granulocytes further divides into three types: eosinophils, neutrophils, and basophils. They mediate immunity by giving hypersensitive or allergic response. Agranulocytes are two types: lymphocytes or monocytes. They mediate immunity by antibody specific or cell-mediated immunity.
