The fractures or breaks that occur in the rock around which the movement occurs are known as a fault. There are two types of faults; named as dip-slip faults and strike-slip faults. When the movement of rock occurs in the vertical direction, it is known as a dip-slip fault, and the movement of rock occurring in the horizontal direction is termed as a strike-slip fault.
