Chapter 7, Problem 7.133QP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Vibration modes that is responsible for
Concept Introduction:
- The process when the infrared radiation emitted from the surface of earth absorbed by the gases and then radiating back to the surface making the surface of the earth warmer is known as greenhouse effect. The gases that help to increase the warmth of the atmospheric surface are called greenhouse gases.
- Greenhouse gases should possess some dipole moment. It should have permanent dipole or at least should have something that can give rise to temporary dipole.
- Unsymmetrical stretching mode in a molecule can create a change in dipole moment.

Which is more stable at room temperature, a Cl2 molecule or two separate Cl atoms? What is the energy difference between the Cl2 molecule and the separated atoms?
Calculate the average Si—Br bond strength for an individual Si—Br bond in SiBr4. The ∆Hac for SiBr4(g) is -1272 kJ/molrxn.
In trichlorofluoromethane refrigerant (CCl3F, also known as Freon-11, R-11, or CFC-11),
there are 3 C-Cl bonds. When these are photochemically broken by solar radiation in the
stratosphere, free Cl atoms produced can catalytically destroy ozone, O3. If the C-Cl bond energy is 331 kJ/mol, calculate the energy in J to break one C-Cl bond, the
frequency of light that corresponds to this photon energy, and the wavelength in nm of this light.
What do we call light in this wavelength region? (visible, UV, IR, etc)
