Chapter 7, Problem 8SQ
Summary Introduction

Introduction: The final stage (third stage) of aerobic respiration is electron transfer phosphorylation. Coenzymes that reduced in earlier reactions provide electrons and hydrogen ions to electron transfer chains in the mitochondrial inner membrane. The flow of hydrogen ions through these proteins drives ATP synthesis. Oxygen accepts electrons at the end of the electron transfer chains and combines with hydrogen ions, to form water.
