Complaints have come to the department manager regarding timeliness of requests for patient information and a decision must be made.
Three months ago, Community Hospital opened a 24-hour urgent-care center 10 miles away in a rapidly growing community. Kent Jones, the health information services manager, took part in the planning that included the use of a combined record and one patient identification number. The decision was made to allow electronic sharing of patient records between the facilities; however, at present it is necessary to fax some portions of the record upon request. In the past month, Kent has received four complaints from the urgent care center that records were not faxed in a timely manner.

Entrepreneur Andrew Field bought a print shop and used his selling skills to boost sales to about $1 million annually. The high fixed cost structure of his business resulted in only a break-even situation, however, and Field saw no hope for improvement given his relatively small local markets.
The idea for a Web site finally struck. Field devised an interactive Web site system to fill his idle capacity. Customers design and submit their orders through a simple program. The company then e-mails a project number and link to a proof of the order, and once approved by the customer, a production, shipping, and delivery date are established.
Field filled his idle capacity and then took his company to the next level by soliciting more work and subcontracting that to competitor companies. Word of the ease and reliability of Fields system has spread, and the company now averages about 7,000 visitors to its site each day, generating sales of $8 to $9 million.

- Explain the difference between the service projects and revenue projects ?arrow_forwardProject Risk Analysis Sydney, Australia’s M5 East Tunnel was constructed under strict budgetary and schedule requirements, but given the massive traffic delays now hampering commuters, the requirements may have been excessive. Due to an inexpensive computer system with a high failure rate, the tunnel’s security cameras frequently fail, requiring the operators to close the tunnel due to inability to react to an accident, fire, or excessive pollution inside the tunnel. The tunnel was built to handle 70,000 vehicles a day, but it now carries 100,000, so any glitch can cause immediate traffic snarls. A managerial risk analysis, including the risk of overuse, might have anticipated these problems and mandated a more reliable set of computers once the costs of failure had been included.
