Introduction:
The calcaneus, is the heel bone. It is the large bone that forms foundation of the foot. The calcaneus connects with the talus and cuboid bones ad forms subtalar joint. This joint is important for normal foot function. Calcaneus bone has hard shell on the outside and softer, spongy bone on the inside. Calcaneus bone fractures cause severe injuries and potential long term consequences such as arthritis and chronic pain.
