Concept explainers
To sketch: The chromosomal alignment at metaphase I for a cell having AaBb genotype that will give rise to two Ab and two aB gametes.
Introduction: Meiosis is a reductional division in which a single cell divides to form four haploid cells, each genetically distinct from the parent cell. The germ cells undergo meiosis to form gametes or sex cells, namely, sperm cells and egg cells. Gametes are haploid cells; that is, they contain only one set of chromosomes.
To determine: The probability of occurrence of the above alignment of chromosomes in the gametes.
Introduction: Meiosis and mitosis are involved in the reproduction of multicellular organisms. The two processes involve nuclear division and cytokinesis. In both divisions, a diploid cell forms new daughter cells.
