Introduction

In the trial of a self-appointed night watchman who killed a Black teenager as he walked home from the store, attorneys might have used mock juries to test different strategies for presenting evidence. For example, if the jury were older and mostly White, the attorneys might present the defendant as a vigilante hero protecting the community from a dangerous individual. If the jury was mostly Black, the attorneys may focus on the ambiguity in the case, and how events can seem to happen very quickly.
