Summary Introduction
Sickle-cell disease is a chronic inherited anemia and it is caused by the recessive gene in humans. It is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, in which red blood cells (RBC) sickle, plugging small blood vessels. The normal hemoglobin allele (H) is dominant over the sickle cell allele (h). An individual has two alleles of a gene. Carriers contain only one copy of the recessive allele and another copy of a dominant allele. Generally, carriers are completely normal and also they do not have the genetic disease or do not physically show the trait. However, carriers can transfer the genetic disease to the next generation.
