Smartphone usage differs by gender. The role of the smartphone in modern life was investigated by a Compete Pulse (November 2011) survey. A total of 251 male and 284 female smartphone users were interviewed in the sample. One of the objectives was to compare male and female smartphone users. For example, 48% of men conduct financial transactions on their phone, as compared to 60% of women. Also, 42% of men watch streaming content (movies/TV) on their phone, as compared to 35% of women.

1. a. Describe the two populations of interest in the survey.

4. d. From your answer to part c, can you conclude that men are less likely than women to conduct financial transactions on a smartphone? Explain.
5. e. Give an estimate of the proportion of men and the proportion of women who watch streaming content on their smartphone.
6. f. Conduct a test to determine whether the proportions of men and women who watch streaming content on their phone differ. Use α = .10.
