Question
Chapter 8.3, Problem 14COQ
Summary Introduction
To define:
The term uniparental disomy and the way through which uniparental disomy arise.
Introduction:
In normal cases, one of the copies of homologous chromosome is inherited from mother and another copy is inherited from the father. Through genomic imprinting, it can be determined which copy is maternal and which one is paternal. However, there are times when both the copies are inherited from one single parent. Generally, the offspring inherits one copy of homologous chromosome from one parent and another copy from another parent. The condition in which both the copies of homologous chromosome are inherited from one single parent is referred to as uniparental disomy.
