You may have noticed that two pairs of the celebrity deaths we mentioned occurred one day after the other (Brian Keith on June 24 and Jacques Cousteau the next day; Robert Mitchum on July 1 and Jimmy Stewart the next day). Suppose that two celebrities die in one week (Monday through Sunday). What is the probability that they die on the same day? What is the probability that they die one day after the other in that same week?
