Suppose a fully equipped skydiver weighing 240 lb has a terminal speed of 120 ft/s with a closed parachute and 24 ft/s with an open parachute. Suppose further that this skydiver is dropped from an airplane at an altitude of 10,000 ft, falls for 25 s with a closed parachute, and then falls the rest of the way with an open parachute.
(a) Assuming that the skydiver’s initial vertical velocity is zero, use Exercise 25 to find the skydiver’s vertical velocity and height at the time the parachute opens.
(b) Use a calculating utility to find a numerical solution for the total time that the skydiver is in the air.

- An object is shot upwards from ground level with an initial velocity of 3 meters per second; itis subject only to the force of gravity (no air resistance). Find its maximum altitude and thetime at which it hits the ground.arrow_forwardA cannonball is launched diagonally with an initial horizontal velocity of 34.0m/s. Label the hypotenuse, opposite side and adjacent side, and determine all unknowns. initial velocity: m/s initial horizontal velocity: 34 m/s initial vertical velocity: m/sarrow_forwardAn arrow is shot into the air so that its horizontal velocity is 25 feet per second and its vertical velocity is 15 feet per second.
