Introduction:

Barometric pressure is also known as the atmospheric pressure. The central and peripheral chemoreceptors regulate the ventilatory pattern. The moment an individual ascends to a higher altitude, a sequence of events take place to regulate the breathing pattern. Initially, the peripheral chemoreceptors are stimulated, then the central chemoreceptors are readjusted.

Explanation

The atmospheric PO2 and barometric pressure both decrease progressively when an individual ascends to a higher altitude. The percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere still remains the same, that is 21% but the atmospheric PO2 decreases
