Concept explainers
To describe:
One way in which endocrine, autocrine and contact-dependent signaling pathways are similar to one another and one way in which they are different from one another.
Concept Introduction:
Endocrine signaling involves the release of the hormone from the cell. This hormone is transported in the blood. It reaches the receptor and binds to it and activates the cell signaling response.
Autocrine signaling involves the release of the chemicals from the cell and involves the binding of these chemicals on the same receptor. Paracrine signaling involves the communication between the cells when the chemical released by one cell binds to the receptors present in the neighboring cell. The circulation of the hormones in the circulatory system is less.
Contact-dependent signaling involves the communication among the cells due to the formation of gap junctions in between the cells.
