Europan Fish. On Earth, fish breathe oxygen that is dissolved in water. Do you expect that we will find dissolved oxygen in Europa’s ocean? Why or why not? Based on your answer, do you think that, if we could somehow transport fish to Europa, it is possible that they could survive in the europan ocean? What other types of life from Earth might survive on Europa?

- Given that no sunlight can penetrate Europa’s ice shell, what would be the type of energy that could make some form of europan life possible?arrow_forwardHow can a planet’s atmosphere affect the width of the habitable zone in its planetary system?arrow_forwardIf you detected radio signals with an average wavelength of 20.000 cm and suspected that they came from a civilization on a distant Earth-like exoplanet, roughly how much of a change in wavelength should you expect to detect as a result of the orbital motion of the distant exoplanet? (Hint: Use the Doppler shift formula, Eq. 7-3.) (Note: Earths orbital velocity is 30 km/s.)arrow_forward

Since no samples from Mars have ever been returned to Earth from any of the missions we sent there, how do we know these meteorites are from Mars? - What evidence can you give that Venus once had significant amounts of water? Where did that water come from?
