The lower energy differences of d-orbital elements zinc and gallium has to be explained.
Concept Introduction:
The energy of ‘s’ orbital is lower than d orbital when they are empty because there is no unpaired electron. The electrons in d orbitals are closer to the nucleus and they will repel the s orbitals electrons further away from the nucleus and cause it to have higher energy.
