Calculation:

For the cross-product term to vanish, the coordinate axes must be rotated by an angle α , such that ,

  tan2α=BAC=532=5

Now, using calculator calculate the angle .

And,

  sinα0.63cosα0.77

After rotation of coordinate axes, the original coordinates, x and y , are replaced by new coordinates x' and y' , such that,

  x=x'cosαy'sinα=0.77x'0.63y'y=x'sinα+y'cosα=0.63x'+0.77y'
