Question
Chapter B, Problem 25P
Summary Introduction
To solve: The following linear programming problem graphically.
Introduction:
Linear programming:
It is a linear optimization technique followed to develop the best outcome for the linear programming problem. The outcome might be to maximize profit, minimize cost, or to determine the optimal product mix. The outcome will take the constraints present in achieving the solution into consideration.
Iso-cost line method:
The iso-cost line method is a technique used to find the optimal solution of a linear programming problem. A parallel line is drawn and moved downward, towards the axis, until it touches the last corner point in the feasible region which has the lowest cost.

Assuming the following:
Warehouse 1 has outbound goods volume - 2,500 units
Warehouse 2 has outbound goods volume - 1,300 units
Warehouse 3 has outbound goods volume - 5,000 units
Given the assumptions and grid coordinates above, the following:
d1x= 200, d2x= 300, d3x= 100, d1y= 50, d2y= 100, d3y= 150
And V1= 2,500, V2= 1,300, V3= 5,000
Which is equal to:
Cx= (200 x 2,500) + (300 x 1,300) + (100 x 5,000) / (2,500 + 1,300 + 5,000) = 158
Cy= (50 x 2,500) + (100 x 1,300) + (150 x 5,000) / (2,500 + 1,300 + 5,000) = 114
Use the numerical example set up above to demonstrate how the centre of gravity location technique is used.
Solve the problem using Linear programming model formulations, slack variables, and graphical solutions to determine the optimal product mix that will maximize profit.
A company produces two products,A and B, which have profits of 9.00 in product A and 7.00 in product B. Each unit of product must be processed on two assembly lines, where the required production times are as follows
Hours/unit

Line 1
Line 2
A

B

8
Total Hours
60
40
What would be the effect on the optimal solution if the profit for product B was increased from 7.00 to 15.00? Solve with graphical solutions.
What would be the effect on the optimal solution if the production time on line 1 was reduced to 40 hours? Solve with graphical solutions.
The Pee Tool Shop has four heavy presses it uses to stamp out prefabricated metal covers and housings for electronic consumer products. All four presses operate differently and are of different sizes. Currently the firm has a contract to produce three products. The contract calls for 400 units of product 1; 570 units of product 2; and 320 units of product 3. The time (in minutes) required for each product to be produced on each machine is as follows:
