Chapter C, Problem 1E

In the following exercises, you will explore some of your calculator's graphing capabilities. Answers are not given in the bath of the book.

Exploring the "Zoom Standard" command. Use your calculator to graph y = 2 x 1 , as discussed in this section. When that graph is on the screen, select the TI "Zoom Standard" command from the "Zoom menu" or the Casio "STD" command from the "V-WIN" menu by doing the following:

TI 83 / 84 • press ZOOM
• select option 6 “Standard” or “ZStandard” by either:
• using the down arrow to scroll down to that option and pressing ENTER , or
• typing the number “6”
Casio • press SHIFT
• pres V-WIN (i.e., F3 )
• press STD (i.e., F3 )

a. What is the result?

b. How else could you accomplish the same thing without using any zoom commands?

(a)

To find:

The result of the calculator to graph the line y=2x1.

Answer to Problem 1E

Solution:

The result of the calculator to graph the line y=2x1 is shown in figure (7).

Explanation of Solution

Given:

The equation of the line,

y=2x1

Approach:

To graph the line y=2x1 on TI83 graphing calculator, follow these steps,

• Set the calculator up for instructions to graph by pressing Y=. This produces the screen as shown below.
