Question
Chapter C2, Problem 1DQ
To determine
Explain the similarities between the demise of both AAN and LAH.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Auditor’s Independence:
Auditors are required to be independent which means that auditors should conduct fairly as per the standards and rules without allowing any bias or managerial influence to affect the work to be performed. Auditor’s independence is a pre-requirement since, investors and other users rely on the assurance provided by the auditors regarding the financial position of the entity.
Similarities between the demise of both AAN and LAH are listed as follows:
- Both of the firms supported the malicious acts of their clients.
- Both of the firms did not reduce their unfair practices even after repeated involvements in the law suits of other companies. AAN had been allegedly involved in WM Company, before ENs case came to light. Similarly, LAH had 115 legal actions, before it went to dissolution.
Thus, both the audit firms engaged in supporting and concealing the malicious practices of their clients which eventually resulted into dissolution of their firms.
