Chapter 3 Discussion
This discussion is based on the information in the Earthwear Annual Report, Earthwear Background document, and Earthwear Client Continuance case files.
[NOTE 1: Willis and Adams, CPA are the current auditors for EWC. This discussion refers to the auditor’s decision whether to retain EWC for the FY 2022 audit.]
[NOTE 2: For this activity, you do not
need to complete the EWC Client Continuance spreadsheet. It has been provided for informational purposes.]
Assume that you are a partner on the audit for Earthwear Clothiers (EWC). Based on the information referred to above, answer the following questions:
1)
Are there any business risks that the auditor should consider as part of its decision?
The transition to the new system was overseen and implemented by the former controller, Brad Norton so, not having him anymore could make the understanding of the system by other workers difficult which could impose a productivity risk for the business. 2)
Are there any incidents that might suggest an issue with management integrity?
The former controller leaving the company suddenly without prior notice suggest that there is an issue within the management. 3)
Should Willis and Adams retain EWC as an audit client for 2022?
Yes, I believe they should because they have been working with the company for a long time and know the system of the company properly because of which the transitioning would be smoother compared with the companies that they have not worked before.
