CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT ASSIGNMENT 4 Jasmine Richey AC1905510 E03V Curriculum Development Assignment 4 12/16/2023 Within this lesson we will look and design activity plans that will focus on the development of the child by way of their cognitive development. That through the increase and focus on the betterment of the child’s cognitive development it will serve in the betterment of the child and their development. Part 1 A The primary purpose of this plan is to teach students about the concept of the basic elements of visual art: line, design, and texture. I have decided that this is the primary purpose of the lesson by first reading the goal and then reading through the plan to make sure that it coincides with the goal for the lesson. For this reason, I would suggest that the evaluation be changed to depict adaptations more correctly for students who have IEPs or special needs. An important part of planning is to ensure that you are reaching the needs of the students in the classroom. Lastly, effective planning entails that the teacher has considered how many students are involved in the activity at once, how they will entice the attention of students (anticipatory set), and how children will transition to the next activity. I see none of these things in the activity plan, so I would be sure to suggest that the teacher adds them. Part 1 B
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT ASSIGNMENT 4 Based on the principles of good planning, the three ways to improve this plan are as follows; Firstly, changing the objectives to specific learning behaviors that will guide what children are expected to learn and do during the activity. Students would have acquired multiple skills for the duration of this simple activity. The objectives can be improved by starting it from “the child will” to “by the end of the lesson, students should be able to” and continuing it with listing the following objectives as 1. Begin to identify some elements of art, primarily line, shape, and texture. 2. Use their sense of touch and sight with their fingers to demonstrate visual arts such as line and shape and to experience object textures. 3. Identify and use different types of lines: zigzag, curved, straight. 4. Develop fine-motor skills as they touch, see, and smell the objects through the towel. A second way that can be used to improve the activity plan is by changing the method of assessment/evaluation. Evaluations should be made based on the objectives of the activity and should highlight the method of assessment used. The following assessment would measure students’ learning; students will be assessed based on teacher observation of students’ work samples and participation in the lesson. A third way that can be used to improve the activity plan is by changing the procedures. Procedures should be established based on the objectives of a lesson plan. Therefore, according to the objectives written above the procedures would be as follows: 1. Students will go on a “Objects Hunt” in the classroom to towel covered trays that holds a natural object describing the lines (short, fat, straight, zigzag, curved, etc.) they have identified and the shapes that some of these object’s form. As they go on, they will sing “Lines are everywhere”. 2. Students will proceed to the towel covered trays and will be invited to touch and record the different object
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT ASSIGNMENT 4 designs in each tray. 3. Students will be questioned as they engage in a discussion about each object’s texture in each box. (Does the object feel soft, gritty, heavy, rough, light, etc.?)
