the data, as well as every assignment question for the
labs completed during the semester.
Be able to CRITICALLY THINK
about all collected data and analysis completed in every assignment sheet.
Know how to correctly use all the equipment in lab: pipettors, pipets, spectrophotometer etc.
Lab Safety procedures
Review handout about safety that is on D2L.
Do you know what is or is not allowed in lab?
Scientific method
Know the steps of the scientific method and all of the terms associated (groups, variable, controls, etc.)
Accurately graph data.
If you are given a scenario, can you plan an experiment correctly? Or understand the provided data?
Identify the independent and dependent variable in an experimental design. Identify them from a graph. Measurement & BioMath
Convert units within the metric system. Milli, micro, etc.
Design how to prepare dilutions eg. 1:5, 1:10, 1:3
Design how to prepare serial dilutions eg. 1:10,000, 1: 1,000,000
Design a dilution series eg. A 1:2 dilution series or a 1:5 series

Explain the basic exposure of yeast to UV light experiment.
Analyze the data curve and determine the lethal dose at 50% of the population.
Given data, prepare a yeast survival curve. Interpret a yeast survival curve.
Design an experiment to test a factor for UV protection. Identify the independent, dependent variables and what should remain constant across the experiment.
Starch experiments
What is the purpose of iodine?
What is the purpose of starch?
What are starch standards? What do you use them for?
How do you make and use a standard curve?
What is qualitative data vs quantitative data?
In the starch experiments, what do you blank the spectrophotometer with?
In the starch experiments, which is darker, higher or lower starch concentrations?
What would be appropriate controls?
What factors affect enzyme activity?
When you increase the amount of enzyme, what happens?
When you increase the amount of substrate, what happens?
What is enzyme velocity? Why do we care about it?

List the energy yield in ATP molecules for each of the following
reactions. If the reaction needs ATP give the answer as a negative
number.
✓ Correct
This reaction has two steps. In the first step, ATP is generated as glucose is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate. Under anaerobic conditions
pyruvate is converted to lactate. In this second step, ATP, in the form of NADH+H+, is used to power the conversion of pyruvate to lactate. Energy-
producing steps can be summarized as follows
glucose → 2 pyruvate + 2 ATP + 2 NADH (5 ATP)
ATP produced = 2 ATP +2 NADH(1 NADH…
