According to an article written by Firas Kittenah for Entrepreneur.com, some top tips for doing business in China are: 1. Collaborate with long-term goals in mind. You will need to demonstrate to those you do business with that you are there long term. 2. Consider the cultural differences. By learning all you can before you expand into China, you will avoid faux pas. 3. Understand that no business in China is separated from the politics in China. Part Two: Hofstede Model of National Culture For each of the six cultural dimensions in Hofstede’s model of national culture, list the score for both countries and then draw conclusions based on the differences in scores between the two countries. To find the scores, use this tool: Hofstede Insights: Compare Countries . When you select both countries, the tool will give you the scores. You should also select the option to read more about your selected countries to learn about the implications of those scores. Identify any significant differences in scores between the two countries. The Power Distance Index is significantly higher in China than the U.S. because China believes that some inequality amongst their citizens is okay. Another significant difference is long-term orientation. China believes in a more pragmatic approach. China is also more restrained in their approach to business. Draw conclusions on the significance of the large differences in scores. China is more business oriented, and less indulgent than other countries. They value challenging work and a more rigid approach to their business practices. List conclusions on the differences in doing business between your two countries based on cultural dimension scores. China focuses more on long-term business practices than the U.S. They will be more likely to need long-term commitments from their business partners. References:
