QUALITY IMPROEMENT IN HEALTHCARE OUTLINE 2
Thesis Statement
: Kumah (2020) suggests that "Health care challenges, such as high prevalence
of chronic illness, increasing costs, decreasing resources, rising patient expectations and more complex care episodes, have exposed the inadequacy of the traditional paternalistic approach to quality improvement" (pg.1). The United States is behind other industrialized nations in population measures of health (Shi & Singh, 2019, pg. 292). Measures that the U.S. is behind on include, inadequate emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion, poor access to primary health care, and prevailing socioeconomic and racial disparities in health and health care
(Shi & Singh, 2019, pg. 292). Greater health care expenditures and more intensive use of medical technology do not necessarily produce better health, implying more is not always better and does not imply better quality (Shi & Singh, 2019, pg. 292). This paper will seek to provide a perspective that focuses on the intervention of improving the quality of care and control costs through patient-centered care. Shifting to patient-centered care will empower the patient to become more active in the planning and delivery of health care services. Which will improve patient satisfaction rates and cost-effective delivery of medical services. Questions/ Issues being addressed:
Background and history of understanding healthcare and improving Healthcare.
What challenges do hospitals or clinics understanding procedures and policy regarding patient care? What are co-production and co-design approaches to quality improvement (QI) efforts gaining momentum in Healthcare?
Identify the cause and effort of patients' care and how Healthcare can improve care quality.
