1- The primary/junior school age program where Margaret Bryce, a student completing a college placement course is responsible for the group of 15 children. This is a violation because Margaret is a placement student and this age group should be supervised at all times by a qualified employee that either has a diploma or degree in either child and youth care or recreation and leisure services or a staff member who is in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers. The placement student should not be counted in ratio (O.Reg.137/15, Section 11.1) . 2- One little boy is tossing and turning and fidgeting on his cot. “Getting Ahmed to sleep for the full two hours is quiet a challenge”. This is a violation because the teacher should follow the child’s needs and, in this case, Ahmed had his share of rest and since he is not able to nap anymore, he has the right to participate in quiet activities (O.Reg.137/15, Section 47). 3- It’s naptime in the preschool room. Marilyn waves to Mary Jo the ECE in the room. The preschool classroom has 24 kids and during nap time reduced ratio is applied but should not be less than 2/3. At that time only 1 teacher (Mary Jo) was present and this is a violation of ratio. There should be 2 teachers to maintain the reduced ratio during nap time (O.Reg.137/15, Section 8) . 4- Marilyn takes a minute to look at the staff list that indicates that staffing for the Preschool room is as follows: Mary Jo Burns (RECE), Susannah York (untrained), Matilda Jones (B.A. English). This is a violation as in a preschool classroom 2/3 of the staff should be qualified which is not the case as only Mary Jo is a qualified ECE and the other 2 teachers are not members of the college of Early Childhood Educators nor do they have a
