Steven Pierce SCI-200 Planning Document Question Check-In Holly Toomer January 16, 2022 My issue: The issue that I have selected is covered in the article "Electric Cars Are Not Necessarily Clean" by David Biello. The issue in question questions whether electric cars help the country of the United States combat climate change and that it depends on where the electricity that powers these cars come from. The article goes on to explain that while electric cars are great for eliminating the use of oil for transportation purposes, there are no other real benefits to them. This issue is significant because climate change is among one of the most pressing issues the earth faces daily. If we wish to help correct the problem of climate change, it would be in our best interest to study how we may reduce greenhouse gas pollution for the earth and the people living on it. As the article stated, the electric cars that we produce are only as good as the electricity that we put into them and said electricity needs a way to produce zero pollution, rather than coal that is currently used to generate the electricity we see in most aspects of our day to day lives. My question: What would the United States need to do to stay off burning coal for electricity and instead use more natural gasses to power our electric vehicles and better climate change?
