Part 1:
Identify two arguable sides about Workplace Violence related to Nursing Careers that deal with
Mental Health.
Identify two arguable sides to staffing shortages related to Nursing Careers in Mental Health.
When it comes to Nursing and Mental Health, having any kind of workplace violence can have a
major effect on the Nursing staff as well as the patients that come there. There are several ar-
guable sides to violence in the workplace, especially when dealing with Mental Health patients.
One way to argue this would be to show that this is a major issue that needs to be addressed and
dealt with appropriately. Many nurses in the Mental Health field have been victims of this or had
their patients be. This can lead to an increase in physical, mental, and emotional injuries and
stress. Another arguable side would be to bring up the fact that violence in the workplace could
just be a part of the job that you have to deal with, especially while dealing with mental health
patients.
Staffing issues have been a major thing with Nursing careers that deal with Mental Health pa-
tients. This also has several arguable sides to it. One side that we can argue is that staffing short-
ages are a major problem that needs to be addressed. Many people in the Mental Health field are
overworked which causes their patients and families to suffer the consequences. Another ar-
guable side would be that staffing shortages are a part of the job and that people who are nurses
that decide to go into the Mental Health field should automatically know that it is a stressful en-
vironment and to expect to be overwhelmed with patients.
Part 2:
I choose to write about the arguable side that, Staffing issues for nurses in the Mental Health
field is a problem and needs to be addressed quickly. I chose this side because I believe that
staffing shortages are a major issue and I have saw this firsthand. I have had someone close to
me pass away due to his Mental Health issues and not getting the proper care from the doctor
that he was seeing, and he took his life.
I believe this topic would be a great thing to read and become an eye opener for many. Many
people in the Mental Health field are overworked and when interviewed or asked why, they ex-
plain that it really is a rough job to deal with and can be draining on the staff. My audience for
this would be anybody in the Mental Health field or those who want to become a nurse or psy-
chologist in the Mental Health field.
