BANK OF AMERICA Strengths & Weakness FEBRUARY 18, 2024 IRENE COOPER FIN564
After putting together the financial information from Bank of America (BoA) in excel and comparing it to one of their competitors, Wells Fargo, I was able to get a better grasp on what would be BoA strengths and weaknesses are. When looking at their Balance sheet their loans & leases (their debt) was more than doubled the amount of debt that Wells Fargo had. Their debt also has grown year after year. The higher the debt the less profit BoA can generate. A Strength of BoA is its efficiency ratio. West Monroe states that an efficiency ratio of 50% is deemed the standard and the top 100 banks are around 59%. Efficiency ratio is non-interest expenses/revenue and this shows how well a bank controls their back office expenses according to Investopia. Over the last 5 years BoA has maintained over 50% efficiency ratio and 4 of the last 5 years their efficiency ratio was above 59%, which is amongst the top 100 banks.
