Week 1 Discussion
Good morning class and Kara,
Wind erosion is a serious environmental problem. It occurs mostly on flat, bare areas with dry, sandy
soil. Much of Norman County meets this description, especially in the spring months when the previous year’s crop has been harvested and the new crop is not yet established. Wind erosion has always been a problem across Norman County. A portion of the center of the county is sandy eroded
soil types. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has identified Highly Erodible Soils based on production loss. The soils in the western half and eastern edge of the county are made up of loams and clays that require less protection but are still at risk to wind erosion.
Human interaction with the environment in an unsustainable manner has led to the popping up of a range of environmental problems ranging from deteriorating environment, air pollution, soil erosion, water pollution, and several others. The list is long and humans stands at the center of all. The major
environmental problem facing us is climate change. Change in the environment along with the long-
term alteration of the atmospheric composition of gases has resulted in climate change where the climate has been warming at an unprecedented pace. The primary reason behind the same is the emission of greenhouse gases such as CO2, CH4, and others in the atmosphere. The results could be disastrous and have the potential to lead to mass extinction events.
The US is certainly not spared by global warming. From north to south, from east to west, all its states are affected by pollution and extreme weather events in some shape or form. Here are the
top
environmental issues
in North America include water pollution, air pollution, shortage of water, wildfires, and plastic pollution.
So, as we look at overall issues these problems intensify off of each in some form or another. We need to look at this like a pyramid the top stone is climate change then underneath it could be multiple factors including global warming and pollution. Under this there is three issues and under that is four issues. Will it end not sure one problem leads to another and that can escalate further we
can manage issues but that is short term not a long-term fixing of the planet. In my honest opinion I don’t think this country does enough to combat climate change from a political standpoint because there are too many of the so-called bad companies like oil and gas influence discission making through money contribution to political candidates and parties. I am old enough to know and see that
it’s only the squeaky wheel that gets oiled until its stops squeaking and then they move onto something else. Sorry for ranting but my passion for this planet is strong and I am one person that is fighting an uphill battle against politics that don’t care.
Have a great day
Tom
