Technology Trends
Technology in Healthcare has recently begun to catch up with the rest of technological trends, not only in the U.S. but in the world. One valuable technology enables patients to receive care and diagnosis via the Internet. In this paper, I will be discussing Telemedicine, its uses, the benefits of improving access to care and its lure to those who are seeking specialty care from providers overseas and long distances. As the more significant part of the world has gone mobile,
it has gotten the attention of healthcare to follow suit in its delivery systems. Increased technology has provided a way of delivering healthcare in ways that had been once thought of as something only found in a science fiction novel. “The ultimate purpose of any medical care is to maintain or improve health and well-being. Thus, how clinical applications of telemedicine affect the quality of care and its outcomes is a central evaluative question—as it is for any health service(Field, 1996).”
Telemedicine, Privacy Risks & Security
Security Measures for Telemedicine are implemented to protect patients' health information while information is transferred electronically. What is, a lot of the time, featured in Telemedicine is utilizing mobile devices for exchanging information and virtual visits. Mobile devices have enhanced the availability of providers reaching patients on a consistent basis. Some
concerns and limitations challenge this new technology that should diminish before a full-on launch of Telemedicine utilization.
“Main challenges involve lack of user acceptance striving from variable credibility and reliability of applications and solutions as they a) lack evidence-based approach; b) have low levels of medical professional involvement in their design and content; c) are provided in an unreliable way, influencing negatively its usability; and, in some cases, d)

being industry-driven, hence exposing bias in information provided, for example towards particular types of treatment or intervention procedures(Wang, Alexander, 2014).”
Security will always be at the forefront of any Telemedicine implementation, issues that need addressing before launching usage of this technology. Any breach during usage of Telemedicine software must be treated as a threat to overall security and patient health information. Based on the nature of the threat, an assessment should be conducted and an investigation must be launched to find the hole in the security that was breached. Strategies for Evaluating the Effectiveness of Telemedicine
The overall success of telemedicine in providing access to rural area patients all while attempting to control costs will be seen over time, and measuring the gap between what is happening and what should be happening will be more visible as implementation and usage continue. “Although improved access to health care has been the motivating force behind many telemedicine applications, reduced health care costs or reduced rates of cost escalation have dominated many other health care initiatives(Field, 1996).” Analyzing the success of Telemedicine requires that analysis conduction of both the financial outcome and the medical outcome to provide a better picture of overall success. Conclusion
The overarching goal of Telemedicine to utilize available technology to improve access to care will continue to show the value of such technological advances. With patients in minds, as well as other stakeholders, providers will strive to meet and improve the health and well-being
of patients no matter the distance. Security will always be a priority when it comes to any medical advances that involve private PHI; Telemedicine is not exempt from laws and regulations that protect confidential information of patients. Meeting the patient needs is the
