Clinical Field Experience A: Strengthening Curricular Programs Shontrell Hughes Grand Canyon University EAD – 520 Strengthening Curricular Programs to Promote Continuous School Improvement Professor Frank Hendricsen October 18, 2023
Clinical Field Experience A: Strengthening Curricular Programs During my interview with three principal candidates, I was able to ask each of them about their roles and responsibilities, and their areas of expertise. They were quite happy to talk about their respective roles and their districts' development policies and curriculum. How do you use the school's vision and mission in making instructional decisions for your school? The three leaders emphasized that the vision and mission of my schools are the driving factors that influence the decisions that are made in our school. They also stated that meeting the needs of our students is a key component of the process. The goal of this program is to instill a positive mindset, cultivate respectful and ethical attitudes, and ensure the safety of all students. It aims to inspire students to become community leaders and learners. As leaders, we are responsible for preparing students for the world of work after high school. We also encourage them to become responsible members of their local community. Through our decisions, the students will be able to develop their independent thinking and solve problems. Decisions about the instruction of students are made to help them develop the necessary skills to succeed in this world. Leaders are also assigned to monitor and guide the teachers. Describe your major functions and activities relating to curriculum design and development. They all agreed that the activities and functions related to curriculum align with the requirements of the CIP. During the review, they gather data about the students to develop a
curriculum design that will be used for the upcoming school year. During the previous year's review, the teachers evaluated our achievements and talked about what we could improve upon in the next year. They also looked at what other targets we should aim for and how we can achieve them using the curriculum. What effect does the school’s CIP have on curricular decisions? According to them, the decision-making process regarding the curriculum's implementation is influenced by the goals of the CIP. The choices are based on the input from all the stakeholder groups, as well as the needs of the students. But the decisions regarding curriculum-based assessments are also measured based on the students' quarterly progress. Who is involved in making and implementing changes to the curriculum and curricular systems? How are they involved and what collaboration takes place? The curriculum design process is based on the previous year's CIP. Data collected from the end-of-year surveys and parent satisfaction surveys are also used to create the curriculum. As a public school district, we are required to meet the state's accreditation and guidelines. The creation of the curriculum is facilitated by a collaboration among various stakeholder groups, such as teachers, parents, students, and community leaders. After gathering information about the program's requirements, a committee composed of the school's administrative and staff members will then develop a plan for implementation. Once the standards have been established, the teachers then take them into account and develop the lessons that will be taught in the classroom. The administration also works with the teachers to guide them through the curriculum development process. While the students are being taught, the teachers and administration gather data about their learners' progress.

How are curricular decisions made regarding intervention strategies that promote academic success of all students? I was surprised by how much the CIP was involved in these interviews. In addition to being responsible for introducing interventions to both teachers and students, the CIP also oversees the development of professional development opportunities for staff members. They use data collected from all grade levels to identify the interventions that are needed to help improve student achievement. Every week, the school employs a comprehensive intervention strategy that comprises of three distinct intervention models. The PBIS is a proven and effective method of addressing behavioral issues, helping students achieve academic success. What is the process used in your district/school for textbook selection? How often and how is this process evaluated for effectiveness? Through the process of research, the teachers are allowed to select the best textbooks for their students. After the curriculum has been established and the standards have been established, the teachers are then responsible for choosing a textbook that meets the needs of their students. If you could change how curricular decisions are made and implemented, what would it be? Explain. I've been a teacher for over twenty years, and I would not change a thing about the way that this district operates. This is the first district in the nation that gives all its stakeholders the opportunity to have a say in the curriculum. The goal of this program is to make sure that students are successful. PSEL Standard 4 and Implications for Future Practice "Effective educational leaders develop and support intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote each student's academic success and well- being" (NPBEA, 2011). This standard clearly states what my future plans are and how I intend
to approach my work. As a servant leader, I will consider the various styles and methods that we use to educate our students and make sure that they succeed. Every night, I spend a lot of time thinking about the various methods and curriculum that I use to educate my students. My goal in entering the field of education was to see how students would perform in the classroom and also outside of it. The goal of the curriculum is to provide the best possible education.
