Soviet Union, led by Stalin, This was because Stalin was greatly expanding his army and
military capability. He was becoming more and more powerful, and with the addition of
nuclear weapons as a threat, the Cold War began. In Churchill’s speech he states, I do not
believe that Soviet Russia desires war. What they desire is the fruits of war and the indefinite
expansion of their power and doctrines,” which further supports my statement.

or the Soviet Union? Cite specific evidence from the documents.
I believe that it was both countries that contributed to the cold war and was due to their need for power and
competition. It seems that most American’s believe that it is the soviets fault, which most soviets believe it
is the U.S.’s fault.
Based on these documents and your knowledge of world history, what are some of the factors that caused the Cold
War?
Tensions between the two nations at the end of World War II, the ideological conflict between both the United States
and the Soviet Union, the emergence of nuclear weapons, and the fear of communism in the United States is what I
believe caused the cold war.
