Organizational Behavior-Written Assignment-5
1).Why is this case about team conflict? What conflicts do you see developing?
Conflict is a clash of interest which is described as something we did not have from others. In the
vigilance report, there was a core team that include members from France and USA. Both parties
were attached to the Drug Safety Division and Information System Division (Dominick, 2008).
In addition, the five sub teams also include this team. The conflicts start among the American
and French team members and which spread to sub teams as well. The reason for that issue is,
there were some communication problems between the team members.
The conflicts that can be seen from the case is that of social contrasts between the team
individuals on the grounds that the individuals from the team have a place with various societies,
in this way, and there are contrasts in assessment and viewpoint.
2). How is distance affecting team dynamics and performance?
The distance between team members is the main cause of the conflict. Also, the team individuals
are situated in various countries that can frustrate the cycle of correspondence each other. It is
difficult to clarify the views and suggestions that undermine the alliance.
Teams that cooperate across distance experience disappointment in imparting and deciphering
data. It can create sensations of question and a climate of stress and pressure between team
persons.

3). What
do you think about the decision to appoint sub-team sponsors? What problem can it solve? Which problems might it not solve?
The head of Drug Safety Division, Lance Paulson has decided to assign two sub teams sponsors.
These sponsors have decision-making power and additional conflict resolution techniques. They
would support in taking the final decision, when the team members were incapable to come to an
agreement. Sub-team sponsors help to resolve conflict among the team persons. They are appointed in the
team to facilitate the way toward sharing the data, likewise help in provide guidance to the team
individuals.
Therefore, the appointment of sub team sponsors was justified. However, sub team
members may not be able to solve technical issues among the team members.
4). In addition to technical skills, what does this case say about the kinds of skills that must
be considered when staffing important projects?
In addition to the technical skills related with the task, different skills are also important when
they are appointing the team members.
Some of the skills that are important are regarding social diversity, tolerating singular contrasts,
initiative skills or a sort of authority that considers everyone's suppositions, relational abilities,
arranging skills, and negotiation skills.

eamwork in Crisis Jerry Jones, a second-year learning team mentor, stared at his notes again. His interaction with the team last night confirmed what he suspected. Only three weeks into the first year of an BSc. program at a big-name school in Barbados, the learning team was in trouble. From his own experience the year before, Jones knew that a first-rate learning team made a huge difference in a student’s first-year experience. The corollary was also true: a bad or difficult learning team experience could taint the entire first-year school experience. Although Jones wanted to help, he was not at all sure how to do so. Perhaps describing the situation to his fellow peer mentors in his second-year elective class on managing teams would draw out some good ideas. In his mind, Jones could hear himself explain the story: Let me first describe the team members. Essentially, they were all around 26 years of age, athletic, and had professional backgrounds in finance or economics. I’ll start…

Case: The Busy Boss Delegates
Director of materials management Tom Netter was responsible for activities divided among five managers, some who themselves had subordinate supervisors. As someone responsible for a wide range of activities, Tom had always espoused a belief and active delegation of authority an active participative management as far as his direct-reporting managers were concerned.
It seemed to Tom as though a common response throughout the hospital to many problems and questions that arose was, “That's Netter's responsibility”. In a way it made him feel good to be identified so strongly with many important activities.
Among Tom’s many responsibilities was membership, on behalf of the hospital, on several product committees of the region’s group purchasing program. He also served on at least four hospital committees, including the product evaluation committee and the safety committee.

Case Study 14–7 Conflict-Handling Styles For each of the five scenarios described below, determine what is the most appropriate conflict-handling style(s). Scenario One A radiologist on the staff of a large community hospital was stopped after a staff meeting by a colleague in internal medicine. On Monday of the previous week, the internist referred an elderly man with chronic, productive cough for chest X-ray, with a clinical diagnosis of bronchitis. Thurs-day morning the internist received the radiologist’s written X-ray report with a diagnosis of “probable bronchogenic carcinoma.” The internist expressed his dismay that the radiologist had not called him much earlier with a verbal report. Visibly upset, the internist raised his voice, but did not use abusive language. How should the radiologist handle this conflict with the internist?
