Unit 1 Discussion Board 2 It is evident from this scenario that John and Shawn have very separate leadership styles. Shawn demonstrates the characteristics of a transformational leader. During the meeting, he focused on his communication about creating a new recognition and rewards program to lure in talent, inspire employees, and improve employee satisfaction. Traditionally, a transformational leader sets the stage and inspires others to make positive changes. Transformation leaders can also focus on the people side of the business because transformation leaders believe that the actual work is within those who work for
the organization and can affect positive or even negative change. I feel this leadership style helps reduce
employee turnover, raise morale, and support an ethical environment; John demonstrates a different style of leadership, an autocratic style of leadership. John is less likely to focus on employee satisfaction and is more focused on the overall goal, metrics, and tasks to accomplish and will make many decisions without the input of others. While John’s leadership style is focused on production and can increase productivity, the flip side is that employees feel like their work is monotonous and that there is little incentive to work as hard as John expects. This can lead to increased turnover and loss of skilled staff carrying heavy loads without any thanks or incentives (Miranda, 2023). In thinking through my leadership style, I found that I related to many different elements of leadership styles, but not just one. I would consider my leadership style to be a combination of transformational, as I am constantly looking for ways to improve and involve staff, and diplomatic, as I genuinely believe that it is vital to have everyone’s input and ideas to make the best possible decision. I realize as a leader, there are times you will have to make decisions solo, and I am prepared to do that, but when possible, I strive to have others weigh in and determine what matters most to them. I feel it is essential to recognize each employee’s strengths to ensure maximum productivity. I also use creativity from my employees or team members to develop the most creative solutions to achieve the best results. Because
of my leadership style, I know the value of human capital and its benefits. I would focus on strategies with John and Shawn about new employees and setting them up for success from the start. I firmly believe that a thorough and robust onboarding program is essential to helping new employees understand their roles, the company's mission and values, and the company's expectations. It is also crucial to provide continuous training and development throughout the organization while being monitored and having time to meet with new hires to provide constructive feedback for their continued success. Most importantly, to communicate to the new staff that they are essential to the company's growth and success. Resources

“Leaning in” as a leader means two things. One is to understand the needs of the followers and provide them with tools, environments, and opportunities that allow the team to be most effective. The second is to trust their team’s ability to conquer any challenges to reach the end goal. If the leader fails to lean in with the team, the whole organization would likely fail. Since the leader needs their followers to achieve any goals at all. The same applies for the follower as well. As a follower, the more you are able to lean in towards the leader. Let them know how you operate and what environment you work best in, it would be impossible for the leaders to create such an environment.
