DISCUSSION BOARD 2 1
Business Case
The case study selected for this discussion is Whole Foods vs Whole Amazon; according to the reading, the case study is based on the impact Whole Foods had after Amazon acquired the
grocery store in 2017. The key component of this case study is the immediate impact Whole Foods had, which created a clash between stores because both stores have totally opposite views when it comes to product selection and pricing. (Blanding, 2018) So, overall, the main key topic is positive organizational behavior; according to this article, research from the positive organizational behavior perspective examines the subjective and contextual factors that enable people and communities to feel good about their work, perform better, and ultimately give organizations a competitive edge, has also largely supported this evidence. Consequently, a growing body of research has demonstrated that effective HRM systems may raise employee engagement and motivation, which will have a substantial effect on output and performance. (Manuti et al.,2020).
Business Case Solution
According to the textbook, there are three steps to take to solve this problem. The first step is to identify the problem, and this can be done by defining the problem, which was already done above. Second, to identify what actually causes the problem, which is the clash between two different stores because of their goals, the textbook mentions that one of the biggest challenges is juggling the demands of various stakeholders, including communities, investors, customers, and staff. No matter what a particular manager may claim, most clearly prioritize one over the others, frequently at the expense of the others. However, some businesses genuinely make an effort to appease all parties. The third step is making recommendations to Amazon’s

Ethical Dilemma When Algorithms Discriminate
Promising companies the ability to get to know their customers and maximize the benefit gained from each one, CRM systems could be called a
marketer's dream. CRM software allows companies to look closely at customer behavior, drilling down to smaller and smaller market segments.
Once so segmented, customers can be targeted with specific promotions. For the company, this process reaps the greatest returns from
marketing efforts because only those customers are targeted who are likely to respond to the marketing campaign.
From a customer's perspective, CRM systems seem like a great idea. You finally stop receiving advertisements for things that don't interest you.
But what if a company uses its CRM software in a more discriminating way? Where do companies draw the line between using CRM data to
offer certain clients customized deals and unethically discriminating against other customers? For example, lenders, which often segment their…

With regards to unethical marketing practices, David Ingram (Examples of Legal But Unethical Situations in Business) writes:
Marketing tactics can walk a fine line between persuasion and manipulation, and this is another area where subjective ethics come into play heavily. Some marketing tactics can take advantage of uneducated segments of the population, which can be perfectly legal while being scorned throughout the marketplace. For example, before the Credit Card Act of 2009, banks could lure teens into opening credit accounts with promises of financial freedom, regardless of the teens' ability to repay the high-interest debts.
Other tactics can take advantage of harmful addictions by eliciting emotional responses. Casino commercials showing elated winners throwing money into the air is a prime example of this in a world where people can ruin their lives with a gambling addiction. Still other tactics can take advantage of people in need by luring them into predatory services, such…

1) define at least one potential root cause
2) give a relevant research question that would test the relationship between the cause(s) you identified and the outcome of interest
3) note the variables that would be included in the resulting research project.
Imagine that you are on the board of directors for a company that was debating whether to recall its staff back to the office following COVID. The board approves the recall. However, after it does, several high-performers in the organization quit!
This is a problem. But could it be a research question too? To answer this:
1) List a few possible causes for the problem.
2) Come up with a research question that clearly notes the relationship you want to study.
3) Name the variable(s) in your research question.
