Nolan Brooket I chose to talk about Approaches to Managing Goal Conflict for Chapter 7. Approaches to Managing Goal Conflict generally refer to the strategies used to handle situations where different objectives or targets are in opposition or are not mutually supportive. This involves identifying and understanding the nature and sources of the conflict, assessing the relative importance of each goal, and then devising a plan to prioritize, balance, or integrate the conflicting objectives.
For Chapter 8, I went with Elements of Competitive Advantage. Elements of Competitive
Advantage refer to the core attributes or conditions that allow a company, product, or service to outperform its competitors. These elements are crucial for establishing a dominant market position and achieving long-term success. They typically include factors such as superior quality,
unique product features, cost leadership, strong brand recognition, customer loyalty, proprietary technology, efficient production processes, and robust distribution networks.
The concept I chose for chapter 9 is Ambiguity and Conflict. Ambiguity and Conflict refer
to the complexities and challenges that arise in situations where information is unclear or incomplete and where differing perspectives, interests, or goals lead to disagreements or clashes. Ambiguity can stem from vague communication, uncertain environments, or lack of clarity in roles and responsibilities, leading to confusion and misinterpretation. Conflict, on the other hand, often emerges when individuals or groups have incompatible objectives, values, or needs. The website I chose to use for my Chapter 7 concept is HR Cloud. This website talks about 7 Tips on How to Manage and Resolve Conflict in the Workplace. I found this website helpful because it is important to know how to manage and resolve conflicts.
(
https://www.hrcloud.com/blog/7-tips-on-how-to-manage-and-resolve-conflict-in-the-
workplace
). For chapter 8, I used a website called Investopedia. I used this website because it shows different types of competitive advantages that companies may face. (
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/competitive_advantage.asp
). For chapter 9, I used the
National Library of Medicine. This website gives great insight about Ambiguity and conflict and how to dissect it. (
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34516164/
).
The article I chose for Chapter 7 gave tips for managing and resolving workplace conflicts, emphasizing the importance of understanding the root of conflicts, maintaining a private and secure environment for discussions, and actively listening to all parties involved. My
chapter 8, article discusses the concept as a condition that enables a company to operate in a more efficient or otherwise higher-quality manner than the companies it competes with. The page details the importance of this advantage in achieving superior margins and profitability, and it discusses various sources and types of competitive advantages companies might possess.
My chapter 9 article explores how uncertainty affects decision-making, differentiating between the effects of ambiguity and conflict. The study investigates the behavioral responses and neural processes. It underscores the need for more research to distinguish between ambiguity
and conflict in decision-making, suggesting the use of advanced behavioral tasks and neural circuit-dissection techniques. I found that all of these articles I read were accurate to what I read on the slides while also being very relevant in today’s society as some people don’t understand how to achieve some of these things in a workplace.

Margaret Quinn, the president of Eastern Electric Corporation, one of the large electric utilities operating in the eastern United States, had long been convinced that effective planning in the company was absolutely essential to success. For more than 10 years she had tried to get a company planning program installed without seeing much result. Over this time she had consecutively appointed three vice presidents in charge of planning and, although each had seemed to work hard at the job, she noticed that individual department heads kept going their own ways. They made decisions on problems as they came up, and they prided themselves on doing an effective job of "fighting fires."
But the company seemed to be drifting, and individual decisions of department heads did not always tally with each other. The executive in charge of regulatory matters was always pressing state commissions to allow higher electric rates without having very much luck, since the commissions felt that costs,…

In this case study, we explore the meticulous planning and execution of a charity fundraising gala to support a local nonprofit organization. The gala aimed to raise funds for underprivileged children's education and healthcare. The organizing team faced the task of coordinating a luxurious evening event, complete with entertainment, fine dining, and silent auctions, all while staying within a limited budget. They also had to secure sponsorships, promote the event effectively, and ensure that all proceeds went directly to the cause. The study examines how the team managed to achieve their goals by leveraging volunteer support, creative cost-saving measures, and building partnerships with local businesses.
Question: How did the organizing team balance the desire for an upscale gala with the need to maximize funds for the charity, and what strategies can be adapted for similar fundraising events with limited resources?
