, 2024
Question 1 The cookie production process is also the batch processing system. The start of it is when orders are received from distributors to schedule production. This process starts when employees come in at the beginning of each shift, the person that is in charge will look at the master list and input the amount of ingredients needed for each type of cookie into the computer, this person is the person in charge of mixing.
After the person inserts the numbers into the computer the computer will then output the dry ingredients needed for the number of cookies that are in each mixing
machine. In the machine there are already the wet ingredients in there that is required. Then once all of the ingredients are placed in the mixer than the machine will turn on. After that is done it will dump the dough into the cutting machine that cuts the cookies to the correct size as needed and will be put into two ovens. After that the cookies are put on racks until the workers can manually box them up, later to be shipped. Question 2 There are a few ways that companies increase productivity. The two ways that they did so were increasing their ovens by 25 feet. They also started to cut the cookies diagonally, which saved them space. Based on the article increasing the size of the oven, makes it so they can bake more cookies at a time which then lowers the amount time waiting for the oven to be open for the next batch of cookies. Question 3
I believe that they did not make the right decision to automate. They should have automated most of their work, which would significantly lower the cost. The obligation it has to the employee would be transparent and make sure that they know what is going on as well. The obligation that they have to the community would be to also be transparent and honest with them as well. If it was located in a bigger city, it would have made a difference. The size of the company is also a factor. If it where a larger company it would have made a bigger impact than this.
Question 4 The factors that cause the company to carry out minimal amounts of inventories is the demand of the product, shelf life of the product, and the FDA labeling requirements. The benefits of these policies are to ensure that none of their ingredients or product will go bad, and the money that they spent is not wasted on the inventory that is categorized as unfit. Question 5 The thing that I judge while shopping for quality of cookies would be that softness of
the cookie, I would also look at if they were fresh cookies or packaged as I prefer getting the fresh cookies that are made. Question 6
Some of the limitations would be that not using preservatives would lead to more cost in price or time to make. The advantages of no using any preservatives would be having more people looking for healthy options such as parents and other who want to be healthier. Question 7
The strategy used by the company is based on having the least amount of waste and making sure that they get max productivity. Only having necessary inventory on hand makes the company have little waste and then allows them to get longer ovens which help with baking the cookies. Which allows less cleaning and higher productivity levels.
