Stansbury 1 Grant Stansbury LHRD 3723 Jan 27 2023 1. What is your reaction to Tim’s story? Tim comes across as a well-rounded person and a strong leader. He refused to let being adopted bring him down. He had an outgoing personality and was endowed with charisma. However, he learned integrity and tenacity from his adopted parents. His adoptive parents taught him the value of hard work and giving back, as well as strong morals. Tim finds it uncomfortable to work somewhere where he is not assisting others in some way. This makes him well-suited to work with other people, whom he will directly assist, but his abilities to manage internal personnel were lacking. Tim possesses many excellent leadership qualities, but it's also crucial for him to find a workplace that complements those qualities. He did this by moving on to Southwest Michigan First. 2. Nature and nurture play a significant role in Tim’s leadership journey. From your perspective, which has the greatest impact on Tim? Discuss your answer. In Tim's case, I think nurture played the biggest part. Being extroverted and outgoing naturally made things easier for Tim, but ultimately, his integrity and tenacity were what made him a good leader. His adoptive parents gave him those qualities through the values they instilled in him. I believe that a person's nature can influence how easy or difficult certain situations are for them, but that a person's upbringing and nurturing are what truly define them as who they are. People's experiences and the environment in which they live have an impact on their opinions, mannerisms, and behaviors.
Stansbury 2 3. Of the six major traits described in the chapter (i.e., intelligence, confidence, charisma, determination, sociability, and integrity), which traits are Tim’s strongest, and which traits are his weakest? Tim's integrity and tenacity stand out as his best qualities. He was raised to work hard and give back, and in his work, he has made an effort to do just that. Tim possesses the remaining four traits as well; based on the reading, it doesn't seem like he lacks any of the six main traits. Tim has intelligence gained from all of his education and experience in addition to his natural charisma and sociability. He also has confidence in what he is doing, and with experience and additional education, his confidence grows. When he falls short or runs into trouble, he learns from the situation and improves in the future. For instance, he realized he was lacking in administrative abilities and wasn't paying enough attention to internal human resources, so he enrolled in leadership training to try and make up for that. 4. What characteristics of Tim’s leadership would you like to incorporate into your own style of leadership? Tim is sociable and self-assured, and I want to reflect that in my leadership approach. If I have more self-assurance and am able to converse freely with others, I believe that leading and building relationships with them will be simpler. I firmly believe that in order to lead and influence others, a calm and pleasant environment is essential. I have trouble speaking in front of large groups of people, so adopting some of Tim's characteristics might help.
