Lesson Overview
In this lesson, you'll learn about ICD-10-PCS codes. This code set is used to assign
inpatient hospital procedures only from the patient's medical record. As with the ICD-10-
CM, there are many guidelines that must be followed in order to ensure accurate coding.
The ICD-10-CM and the ICD-10-PCS codes combined will provide an accurate record of
the diagnosis and procedures for each patient.
Lesson Objectives
Describe the format and structure of the ICD-10-PCS classi±cation system.
Assign ICD-10-PCS codes according to inpatient coding and reporting guidelines.

Inpatient Coding
Read this assignment and watch the video. Then, read Chapters 6 and 7 in your digital
textbook. Procedure Coding With ICD-10-PCS
The
ICD-10-PCS (Procedure Coding System) replaced ICD-9-CM Volume 3. The ICD-
10-PCS uses a completely different code structure for procedures. Rather than assigning a
code with a generalized description as in the previous ICD-9-CM Volume 3, with the new
ICD-10-PCS, you'll assign codes that provide specific details of every element of the
procedure. You'll learn about the expandable multiaxial format of ICD-10-PCS, which
allows room for more codes as new surgical procedures and treatments are created.
Introduction to ICD-10-PCS
Previously, you would have used ICD-9-CM Volume 3 to assign procedure codes to
surgeries performed on patients in the hospital. Now, you'll use ICD-10-PCS in the same
way.
ICD-10-PCS isn't in the back of the ICD-10-CM; instead, when you need to look up a
surgical procedure, you'll use a completely separate manual entitled ICD-10-PCS.
Code Structure Watch "The Seven Characters in Specific Locations in a Code" to understand this structure
in the ICD-10-PCS. Download the transcript here.

In the automotive industry, supercars are highly accredited with how they are manufacture; from the
type of car chassis used to the type of materials employed. Often enough, companies like BMW,
Mercedes & Audi produces supercars that exemplifies a better reliability compared to other automotive
manufacturing companies. This is because they pay close attention to the details on how the car is
manufactured; right from raw materials to a finished supercar. The task given to you is to watch the
video link provided below & explain the electrostatic process acquired for the two different models of
BMW vehicles.

Interconverting pressure and force
A chemistry graduate student is designing a pressure vessel for an experiment. The vessel will contain gases at pressures up to 470.0 MPa. The student's
design calls for an observation port on the side of the vessel (see diagram below). The bolts that hold the cover of this port onto the vessel can safely withstand
a force of 2.80 MN.

You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the Ti-6Al-4V…

Question 3. The purchase price of a natural gas-fired commercial boiler (capacity X) was $181,000 eight years
ago. Another boiler of the same basic design, except with the capacity 1.42X, is currently being considered for
purchase. If it is purchased, some optional features presently costing $28,000 would be added for your
application. If the cost index was 162 for this type of equipment when the capacity X boiler was purchased and
is 221 now, and the applicable cost capacity factor is 0.8, what is your estimate of the purchase price for the
new boiler?
Hint: Use both indexing and power-sizing methods.

A. A customer asked you to explain your choice of a temperature sensor that you used for his PCB.
Initially, there were two sensor options. To compare between them, you decided to test their accuracy
and precision. Accuracy of a sensor is a measure of how near its reading is to the real value, the nearer
the measured value to the real value the better. While precision is a measure of how widely spread the
readings of a sensor are [relative to each other] when measuring the same variable, the narrower the
spread the better. So, you tested the two sensors by measuring the same temperature, which was 100
C of boiling water, and you recorder the following 10 measurements of each sensor. Which Sensor has
higher accuracy, and which one has higher precision.

Experiment #1: Acceleration vs. Force
In this lab you will determine the relationship between acceleration and net force.
Choose a mass at the beginning, and keep it constant for this entire experiment.
Set the friction to zero. This will make your Applied Force equal to the net force.
Record data for five different values of Applied Force.
Graph Acceleration vs. Net Force.
Graph this in Google sheets(you want a line graph - it should only have one line).
