Module 02 Assignment
- 3M Encoder and Coding Clinic Worksheet.
Overview:
Before attempting the
3M Encoder and Coding Clinic Worksheet
, you should read all the
information about 3M and Clintegrity Encoders in the Module 02 Lesson Content, section
Encoder Review and review how to access the 3M Encoder through the AHIMA VLab Account
you created in your Coding Foundations course.
The instructions for accessing the 3M Encoder
will be found in the lesson content.
If you tested out of Coding Foundations and did not receive an access code to set up a AHIMA
VLab Account, please contact your instructor to obtain a VLab access code to set up a licensed
account with access to the 3M Encoder through the AHIMA website. Request VLab Access
Code Redemption Instructions from your instructor.
Once you have accessed the 3M Encoder and you are prepared to do screenshots, go to Part 1
of this worksheet and follow the directions for the three screenshots that will help you review
how to navigate the 3M Encoder and how to access the AHA Coding Clinic Resource in the 3M
Encoder.
Part 1 - Use 3M Encoder
Instructions
: Use the 3M Encoder and do the following:
1. In the 3M Encoder, on the Patient Information screen, do the following:
a.
Gender
: Set to female or use the drop-down box to choose male.
o
Remember: Gender is “Female” by default, but you can change it to “Male”
when coding.
b.
Age at Admission
: Enter 30.
c.
Product:
The default will be DRG Finder which is good for this assignment.
d.
Take a screenshot and paste it in the space below this sentence.

2. In the 3M Encoder, from the screen in the prior question, do the following:
a.
Click the “Continue” bar
and then choose “
home” for discharge status. T
hen press
the “Enter” bar to bypass “Admit Diagnosis,” which will take you to the screen where
you can begin to code. (A reminder that if you want to code inpatient you allow the
default of DRG Finder.
If you want to code for outpatient, you set the “product” on
the information page to APC Finder.)
You will not be coding for this assignment, only
using the resource of the AHA Coding Clinic
.
This section is just to review how to get
to the coding screen so you can use the 3M Encoder for coding if you choose.
b.
Click the icon of yellow stacked books
on the right of the toolbar at the top of the
screen.
That takes you to all the resources available in this encoder.
c.
Take a screenshot and paste it in the space below this sentence.
3. In the 3M Encoder, from the screen in the prior question, do the following:
a
. Click the link for “AHA Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM and ICD -10 CM/PCS.”
You will
now be in the AHA Coding Clinic, so you are ready for Part II.
b.
Take a screenshot and paste it in the space below this sentence.

Part 2 - Use Coding Clinic in 3M Encoder
Instructions
: Now that you have opened the AHA Coding Clinic, follow the directions step by
step in Part 2 and access the correct quarter and year as directed and then follow the
instructions for #1-3 where you will copy and paste or screenshot the information requested
from the AHA Coding Clinic and then look up the codes and any needed instructional notes.
1. In Coding Clinic, open the list for
4
th
Quarter of 2019
.
a. Under the heading “Ask the Editor,” choose a diagnosis (not a procedure) and click its
link. Read the Question and Answer provided for coding that diagnosis. Copy and
paste the Question and Answer in the box provided below.
b. In your Code Book’s Tabular List, look-up the code(s) from the “Answer” section above
and, in the second box provided below:
1)
List the Code Book page number of where you found the code(s).
2)
Type-in any instructional notes for the code(s) found in the Tabular List. If
there are no instructional notes, type-in “N/A.”

You are assigned as the head of the engineering team to work on selecting the right-sized blower that will go on your new line of hybrid vehicles. The fan circulates the warm air on the inside of the windshield to stop condensation of water vapor and allow for maximum visibility during wintertime (see images). You have been provided with some info. and are asked to pick from the bottom table, the right model number(s) that will satisfy the requirement. Your car is equipped with a fan blower setting that allow you to choose between speeds 0, 1,2 and 3. Variation of the convection heat transfer coefficient is dependent upon multiple factors, including the size and the blower configuration. You can only use the following parameters:

The Weather Monitor. Your South American expedition splits into two groups: one that stays at home base, and yours that goes off to
set up a sensor that will monitor precipitation, temperature, and sunlight through the upcoming winter. The sensor must link up to a
central communications system at base camp that simultaneously uploads the data from numerous sensors to a satellite. In order to
set up and calibrate the sensor, you will have to communicate with base camp to give them specific location information.
Unfortunately, the group's communication and navigation equipment has dwindled to walkie-talkies and a compass due to a river-raft
mishap, which means your group must not exceed the range of the walkie-talkies (3.0 miles). However, you do have a laser rangefinder
to help you measure distances as you navigate with the compass. After a few hours of hiking, you find the perfect plateau on which to
mount the sensor. You have carefully mapped your path from base camp around lakes and…
