Assessors will observe the student completing the service tasks. 2. Students may work individually or in pairs depending on class size. 3. Assessment is based on the Assessment Requirements (R1) of AURLTJ102 Remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes. 4. At any time, students may refer to technical manuals and their learning guides or Textbooks for further information. 5. If there is a clear breach of safety, assessors MUST intervene immediately and advise the student of the breach. 6. Students MUST successfully remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes before competency can be achieved for the practical component. 7. Observable behaviors and answers to oral questions MUST be recorded on this document. 8. If reassessment is required, this must be done after further study and discussion with the student. Task/s to be assessed The tasks you will be observed undertaking are: The student MUST remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes for specific applications that safely and environmentally follows workplace procedures to meet required outcomes. This includes: 1. Remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres to BOTH STEEL and ALLOY wheels, including repairs or replacements to: 1. Two [2] tubes 1. Two [2] radial ply tyres. Oral questioning During the practical demonstration your assessor will ask you questions that will address the knowledge aspects of the unit of competency. You will respond orally, and your assessor will record your response. Topics will include: 1.Prepare to remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes 2.Remove and inspect tyres, tubes and wheels 3.Repair and refit tyres and tubes 4.Complete work processes Time allowed On average, the Assessment should take 2 – 4 hours to complete each Job Card. Location Assessment will take place in a simulated workshop environment relevant to the trade stream being studied. Practical Practice You should have practiced these practical tasks and feel comfortable completing the tasks before attempting the practical assessment. Decision making rules To achieve a satisfactory outcome, you MUST remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubeson four [4] occasions in automotive service and repair workplace before competency can be achieved for the practical component, and answer all questions presented by the Assessor. AURLTJ102 Remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes Expected answers to oral questions are indicative of the correct answer. You MUST look for the following in this assessment task: - The student MUST remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes for specific applications that safely and environmentally follows workplace procedures to meet required outcomes. This includes: 2. Remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres to BOTH STEEL and ALLOY wheels, including repairs or replacements to: 2. Two [2] tubes 1. Two [2] radial ply tyres. Performance Observation Criteria for Assessment Task The assessment methods MUST be by direct observation of tasks on required skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application. Your Assessor will observe you on the following observations: 1. Obtain and read through job card to determine customer concern and discuss concern with customer of workplace supervisor. 2. Access and understand the correct vehicle workshop manual, tyre manufacture, tube manufacture, tyre machine operating instructions and workplace procedures for removing, inspecting and repairing tyre and tubes, including safely deflating and inflating tyres and tube procedures. 3. Observe all workplace safety requirements, wear correct PPE, completed job safety analysis (JSA) and identify any hazards with working around wheel and tyre assemblies such as; using compressed air and air operated workshop tools and equipment, manual handling of wheel and tyre assemblies, dangers of working with split or multi-piece wheel assemblies, deflating and inflating tyres and tube and managed risks by following procedures for using workplace tools, equipment and air operated tools, safely lifting wheel and tyres assemblies using lifting equipment and followed Workplace Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs). 4. Select the correct tools, equipment and materials for removing, inspecting and repairing tyre and tubes such as; wheel and tyre lifting equipment, tyre gauge, tyre cage, buffing rasp, Remer, patch roller/stitcher, T-handle needle tool, Schrader valve core removing tool, wheel weight hammer, tyre crayon, tyre depth gauge, vulcanising cement fluid, cleaning solvent, plug patches, tyre repair patches, tyre valves, tyre changing machine, tyre iron levers, bead seat ring, tyre mounting paste or wax, dip tank and checked that the tools and equipment are safe to use. 5. Follow the workplace safe work procedures, vehicle workshop manual, tyre manufacture workshop manual, tube manufacture workshop manual and tyre machine operating instructions, using the correct tools and equipment, such as; tyre changing machine, tyre iron levers, wheel weight hammer and Schrader valve core removing tool, safely deflated the tyre following the deflating and inflating tyres and tube procedures, mark the wheel weight and valve position on the tyre and safely removed the wheel weight, tyre and tubes from the wheel assembly. 6. Follow the workplace safe work procedures, vehicle manufactures workshop manual and tyre manufacture workshop manual, inspected the condition of tyre, tube and wheel assembly for rim damage or cracks for hub mounting points wear and wheel nuts/lugs holes for damage, inspected the condition of tyre assembly for rapid wear at the centre or shoulders or damage like crack tread including for wear using tyre depth gauge and the tube for deterioration, and located the source of the leak, then reported findings and recommendations on the Job Card and to the customer or workplace supervisor. 7.
