1.
Summary:
provide a brief summary of the research aim and why this is important .
We’d like to propose research into how QUT students, specifically first years, seek
support through QUT channels with the aim to improve student’s mental health.
Specifically, we’d like to conduct qualitative research that would develop an
understanding of both QUT students and the QUT apps Help section. This
understanding would yield critical insights into the affectivity of the app,
articulating any gaps between the user experience and their needs. This is critical
as currently, according to Eleanor R. Burgess and co’s academic study,
technological affordances that aid in managing mental illnesses have low adoption
rates and fail to integrate with the lifestyle of their target audience. Emily G. Lattie
and fellow authors of the academic article “Technology and College Student Mental
Health: Challenges and Opportunities” articulate just how critical counselling and
other student support systems are in managing and maintaining mental health
amongst students. A clear need from students for these online resources yet a low
adoption rate indicate a gap between the user and the service, one that Scott
Myers and co, in “Development of a student-driven information technology support
service” offer a critical solution to. By rebuilding student services with feedback
and participation from the students they were able to close this gap, in turn,
creating a far more effective service. It’s our ambition to follow these examples and
through our proposed research yield insights that would improve this app.

Interconverting pressure and force
A chemistry graduate student is designing a pressure vessel for an experiment. The vessel will contain gases at pressures up to 470.0 MPa. The student's
design calls for an observation port on the side of the vessel (see diagram below). The bolts that hold the cover of this port onto the vessel can safely withstand
a force of 2.80 MN.

Mountaineers often use a rope to lower themselves
down the face of a cliff (this is called rappelling). They
do this with their body nearly horizontal and their feet
pushing against the cliff (Eigure 1). Suppose that an
78.6-kg climber, who is 1.88 m tall and has a center of
gravity 1.0 m from his feet, rappels down a vertical cliff
with his body raised 40.4° above the horizontal. He
holds the rope 1.54 m from his feet, and it makes a
20.7° angle with the cliff face.
✓ Correct
Part D
Figure
1 of 1
What minimum coefficient of static friction is needed to prevent the climber's feet from slipping on
the cliff face if he has one foot at a time against the cliff?
Express your answer using two significant figures.

QUESTION 2
A company needs to choose one supplier for a particular type of silicon wafer used'in the production of
semiconductors. The company has three options. Supplier A sells the silicon wafers for $2.50 per wafer,
independently of the number of wafers ordered. Supplier B sells the wafers for $2.40 each but does not
consider an order for less than 2,000 wafers. Supplier C sells the wafers for $2.30 each but does not accept
an order for less than 3,000 wafers. Assume an order setup cost of $100 and an annual requirement of 20,000
wafers. Assume a 20% annual interest rate for holding cost calculations.

O You are running an industrial research study together with your project team to
improve energy efficiency in a combustion process. The purpose of the research is
to identify the optimum air-fuel ratio for the combustion process in a boiler under
varying conditions of air supply and quality of fuel. The study would involve
design of experiments, data collection and analysis, simulation of the different
variables and validation of the optimum parameters. There is a lot of pressure to
improve the energy efficiency as there is a forecast of fuel price rise in the
forthcoming month.

ago. Another boiler of the same basic design, except with the capacity 1.42X, is currently being considered for
purchase. If it is purchased, some optional features presently costing $28,000 would be added for your
application. If the cost index was 162 for this type of equipment when the capacity X boiler was purchased and
is 221 now, and the applicable cost capacity factor is 0.8, what is your estimate of the purchase price for the
new boiler?
