ASSIGNMENT – 3
FACILITY PLANNING & DESIGN
Need to produce 250 units of a final assembly, C. Assembly C is comprised of 2 sub-assemblies, A
and B.
Final assembly C has defect rate of 1%.
Six (6) pieces of sub-assembly A are needed for the final product C.
Sub-assembly A has a defect rate of 14%.
One (1) pieces of sub-assembly B are needed for the final product C.
Sub-assembly B has a defect rate of 10%.
I.
Draw a simple work flow diagram or “road map” for this process. Label the sub-assemblies and
yields at each step.
Answer.
Following is the work flow diagram for the given process:
Note:
Work Flow Diagram is drawn on https://www.lucidchart.com ;URL Link for the pdf document is as follows - https://lucid.app/publicSegments/view/2a897e97-e3a2-41aa-9316-78b43161902a II.
Calculate the number of sub-assemblies A and B needed to produce 250 units of final product C. DO
NOT round-off to more than 2 places.
Answer.
Given: Number of Sub-assemblies A required for final assembly = 6 pieces
Number of Sub-assemblies A required for final assembly = 1 piece
Number of Final assemblies required to be produced = 250 units

Note:
For calculation of number of units to be produced, numbers are rounded off up to 2 decimal places. As the assemblies can not be produced in fractions, next whole number is taken in order to finally get 250 units of final assemblies C.

The MPS start quantities for product A calls for the assembly department to begin final assembly accordingto the following schedule: 100 units in week 2; 200 units in week 4; 120 units in week 6; 180 units in week 7;and 60 units in week 8. Develop a material requirements plan for the next 8 weeks for items B, C, and D.The BOM for A is shown in Figure 11.26, and data from the inventory records are shown in Table 11.4.

A hydraulic press must be used to press-fit two components together in an assembly process. The system must generate at least 975 lb of force to perform the press fit. The piston at the input cylinder is pushed with a force of 250 lb and has an area of 30 in.2. The output can use up to 15 cylinders that are each 30 in.?.
How many output cylinders must be incorporated into the design?

An order for 100 of a product is processed on work centers A and B. The setup time on A is 30 minutes, and run time is 10 minutes per piece. The setup time on B is 50 minutes, and the run time is 5 minutes per piece. Wait time between the two operations is 4 hours. The move time between A and B is 10 minutes. Wait time after operation B is 4 hours, and the move time into stores is 15 minutes. There is no queue at either workstation.
If it is decided to overlap operations A and B by splitting the lot of 100 into two lots of 70 and 30. Wait time between A and B and between B and stores is eliminated.
Setup on operation B can start before the first batch arrives.
Calculate the manufacturing lead time for the whole order.

True, False or Uncertain. Explain your answer.
Own wage elasticity JELLlincrease if product demand elasticity n? is high.
In short run, when there is an increase in wage rate, each firm will hire less labor
and so the industry labor demand is simply the horizontal summation of firm's
labor demand.
а.
b.
Labor demand is represented by the marginal revenue produce schedule (MRP)
when we have competitive product market while it will be represented by the
value of marginal product schedule (VMP) when we have a product market
monopolist.
When elasticity of substitution, SLK, increase that means the L and K are less
substitutable, and the isoquant will be L-shaped.
Minimum wage imposed by the government is always bad for the economy
because it increase unemployment and deadweight loss.

A machine makes two components; call them types A and B. It takes 250 seconds to switch production between the component types. During that time, no production occurs. When in production, each unit of A or B requires 0.5 second to be completed. The two components, A and B, are combined in an assembly process to make a final product; call it C. The assembly step can combine the two components into 1 unit every 2 seconds, or 30 units per minute. Assume there is ample demand.
Suppose the machine rotates between one batch of 1,000 units of A and 1,000 units of B. What is the average inventory of B components?
