1 Introduction In this experiment, we will be given two springs with different spring constants and will be attaching different masses to each spring to record data. The purpose of this experiment is to compare the values of each spring on a plotted graph to calculate their spring constant. We will find the spring force using this formula: Fs = -kx (Fs- spring force, k- spring constant, x- extension) Experimental Setup The link above shows the experimental determination of the spring constant. I will recommend you use Excel to plot the force (N) verse extension (m) graphs. The gradient (slope) is the spring constant. More information about this experiment can be obtained online. In this experiment, you are provided with data for two different springs. Plot the graphs and compare the individual slopes with the known spring constants provided at the top of each table.
