Name: Mathew Jacob Date: 1/30/24 Environment, Routines, and Procedures – Uzick & Quigley 1. Having clearly defined routines and procedures in your classroom helps to maximize student learning. Give at least two examples from Ms. Uzick’s video that show evidence that she has established routines and procedures in her classroom. Students has the procedure in their classroom done to help them ease in a learning environment. That can be hanging clothes while entering the class, and by the student raising the hands for response. Students line up in order is another example of procedure. Ms. Uzick's classroom the students had to raise their hands if they wanted to ask a question. The students line up in order and have to put their stuff away as they enter the class. 2. Transitions from one activity to another in the classroom can cause disruption and off-task behavior. Describe two strategies that Ms. Uzick implements to promote smooth transitions. Transition are very important for students to continued studying while changing subjects. She will use countdown for students that are visual and then she will use songs or tunes for the students as well. She will give cues and helpful songs for students to adjust to different scenes. This smooth transition helps to reduce confusion and helps the student to learn how to adjust to time transition between subjects of the same topic. 3. Ms. Quigly designs her lesson to stimulate open communication and collaboration between her students. Explain how this can assist students with learning content. Give two examples. The lesson was drawn to get the student attention. This can be seen when the teacher asks the student a questions which stimulate open communication by the letting the student time to think and give a respond. Also, when she let them collaborate with their student. This help them gain knowledge by helping other students.
4. Routines and procedures in an elementary classroom will look very different than those in a high school classroom. Compare and contrast these differences using examples from the video. Both settings are important for students to learn in the their own age group. Elementary school will have poster and signs that relate to the student interest. There are less images in High school settings. Students in high school are more older than the elementary school students thus the attention span is different and their resources for learning will be more teacher based than self learn as in seen in high school.
